Although it does a great job of decreasing a patient&#8217;s perception of discomfort, we&#8217;ll still use a local anesthetic to numb the area we&#8217;re treating. We won&#8217;t use nitrous oxide if you&#8217;re pregnant, have an inner ear infection, or suffer from asthma.<\/p>\n<p>You breathe nitrous oxide through a small mask that covers your nose. We can adjust the dosage of the nitrous oxide gas to fit your needs. You can also control its effects by controlling your breathing. The more deeply you breathe through your nose, the more you&#8217;ll feel its effects. There are no long-lasting effects, and you can safely drive after the dental appointment.
