_builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><iframe id=\"DidYouKnow:GumDiseaseIframe\" onload=\"scroll(0,0)\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\nvar iFrame = document.getElementById(\"DidYouKnow:GumDiseaseIframe\");iFrame.setAttribute(\"src\", \"https:\/\/www.caesycloud.com\/EmbeddedPlayer.aspx?eqs=azMwx%2bnW4nBDhvF7cxhy897Tc7ggc%2fFnNyXhOoyRL%2bBoGF0Cv2K%2beM7fCFwlISYPrg0k7IXc6V0%3d&#038;pw=\" + iFrame.getAttribute(\"width\") + \"&#038;ph=\" + iFrame.getAttribute(\"height\"));\n\/\/ ]]><\/script>\n<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Periodontal Disease<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Periodontal disease is an infection of the teeth, gums, and the bone that surround the teeth.\u00a0 Most people who have periodontal disease aren\u2019t even aware of it, because it\u2019s rarely painful, especially in the early stages.<\/p>\n<p>The main cause of periodontal disease is the accumulation of plaque.\u00a0 Plaque is the sticky film of food and bacteria that forms constantly on your teeth.\u00a0 If all of the plaque isn\u2019t removed each day, it builds up and mineralizes to become tarter, also called calculus.<\/p>\n<p>If tarter isn\u2019t removed, it begins to accumulate on the root surfaces.\u00a0 Bacteria that cause periodontal disease thrive in tartar.\u00a0 These bacteria produce toxins, and it\u2019s these toxins, combined with your body\u2019s response to them, that destroy bone around your teeth.\u00a0 Professional help is required to remove tartar, because there\u2019s no way to remove it at home.\u00a0 A toothbrush or floss won\u2019t even budge it.<\/p>\n<p>Since you may have periodontal disease without experiencing symptoms, we perform a thorough examination using X-rays and a periodontal probe.<\/p>\n<p>The crevice between a tooth and the surrounding gum is called sulcus.\u00a0 A healthy sulcus is two to three millimeters deep.\u00a0 When plaque and tartar invade a sulcus and it becomes deeper than three millimeters, it is called a pocket.\u00a0 We measure the depth of all pockets using a periodontal probe.\u00a0 The measurement is from the bottom of the pocket, where the gum is attached to the tooth, to the top of the gums.\u00a0 In general, the deeper the pockets, the greater the extent of periodontal disease.<\/p>\n<p>We also examine the color, shape, and overall condition of the gums.\u00a0 Bleeding is a sign of infection; healthy gums don\u2019t bleed.\u00a0 Healthy gums are firm and lightly stippled.\u00a0 In moderate cases of periodontal disease, we see swollen gums.<\/p>\n<p>X-rays also tell us a lot about periodontal disease, because they allow us to monitor your bone levels.\u00a0 In a healthy mouth, the bone comes up high around the necks of the teeth, and the bone level is even throughout the mouth.\u00a0 With advanced periodontal disease, the bone levels are much lower and are uneven.<\/p>\n<p><iframe id=\"DiagnosingPeriodontalDiseaseIframe\" onload=\"scroll(0,0)\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\nvar iFrame = document.getElementById(\"DiagnosingPeriodontalDiseaseIframe\");iFrame.setAttribute(\"src\", \"https:\/\/www.caesycloud.com\/EmbeddedPlayer.aspx?eqs=azMwx%2bnW4nBDhvF7cxhy897Tc7ggc%2fFnZQYEFx%2bph0h%2bxBO7IH%2bbn87fCFwlISYPrg0k7IXc6V0%3d&#038;pw=\" + iFrame.getAttribute(\"width\") + \"&#038;ph=\" + iFrame.getAttribute(\"height\"));\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Treatment and Maintenance <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Routine cleanings in our office remove plaque and tartar that exist on your teeth above the gum line, but sometimes, especially if you don\u2019t floss regularly, plaque, tartar and bacterial toxins can develop below the gum line.\u00a0 The goal of scaling and root planning is to remove this source of periodontal infection from below the gum line on the surface of the roots.<\/p>\n<p>Normally, we\u2019ll spread scaling and root planning over two appointments.\u00a0 This will maximize your comfort and allows us to check the healing and help you fine-tune your homecare efforts.<\/p>\n<p>To keep you comfortable, we may give you local anesthetic before the procedure begins.\u00a0 Then we\u2019ll use either a small scaling instrument or an ultrasonic scaler to carefully and meticulously remove plaque and tartar from the top of your tooth all the way down to the bottom of the pocket.<\/p>\n<p>Then, we\u2019ll plane- or smooth- the root surfaces so your gums can heal and reattach to your teeth.\u00a0 If it appears to be necessary, an antibiotic or alternative medication will be placed in the pocket after it\u2019s been scaled and planed to control infection and promote healing.\u00a0 Oral antibiotics might also be prescribed to further combat again tighten around your teeth.<br \/> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caesycloud.com\/EmbeddedPlayer.aspx?eqs=azMwx%2bnW4nBDhvF7cxhy897Tc7ggc%2fFnZdmegIPd1MkHWp%2bJK84Kt82Ze0y%2bS8cVNKcPchH8SN4%3d\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scaling &amp; Root Planing Procedure<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Homecare is the key to continuing the healing process.\u00a0 Since brushing and flossing only removes plaque about three millimeters below the gum line, you\u2019ll need special tools to clean the affected areas.\u00a0 As part of your treatment, we\u2019ll provide you with the tools and techniques you\u2019ll need to thoroughly clean and maintain these areas.<\/p>\n<p>After this disease process in under control, a regular cleaning is not appropriate anymore.\u00a0 Instead, you will require special on-going gum and bone care procedures, also known as periodontal maintenance to keep your mouth healthy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/centralparkdentistry.com\/site\/homecare-srp\">Homecare SRP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_5&#8243;
